The Panhandle Animal Shelter is a volunteer, non-profit shelter which
is not affiliated with the county or city and receives no tax support.
Of the 1200 cats and dogs admitted to the shelter each year, nearly all strays will be placed in adoptive homes and several hundred will be reunited with their owners. The shelter's outreach programs provide humane education, spay/neuter cost assistance and free pet identification & registration. Our History Directions to the Panhandle Animal Shelter: From the South (Coeur d'Alene): Go across the Long Bridge into Sandpoint Follow through town on 1st, then Cedar. At the light, go straight. Go two blocks and take a right on Boyer Ave. Take Boyer up to Baldy Mountain Road. Take a left on Baldy Mountain. Follow Baldy Mountain up past Alpine Lumber on the left. After the Sandpoint Independent Highway District, GN road veers off to the right. Take a right on GN Road, The shelter is the first driveway on the right. From the North (Bonner's Ferry): Take 95 South to Ponderay to Schweitzer Cut-off Rd. Take a Right on Schweitzer Cut-off Rd. Take the first left, which is North Boyer Rd. Take North Boyer by the airport and across RR tracks. After RR tracks, take a right on Baldy Rd. Follow Baldy Mountain up past Alpine Lumber on the left. After the Sandpoint Independent Highway District, GN road veers off to the right. Take a right on GN Road, The shelter is the first driveway on the right. After the traffic light at Cedar Street, take a right on Oak St. The Thrift Shoppe is the second building on the right and is located next to Foster's Crossing Antique Mall. |
